Blog #15 Bullying and what you can do...

Welcome back to the second semester of JROTC.  We are getting ready for our Honor Unit Inspection and continuing on with our lesson so we will finish this week on "Bullying" and move into how our brain works.  You task is to watch the following video and once you have completed it, you must go out and do something positive for another student in the school that might be being bullied, show your support for them. Once you have done this selfless act, you must come back and post your experience online and detail how it made you feel. You must then post a story or video relating for paying forward acts of kindness and lastly you must comment on one of your peers.  I DARE YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

  1. One thing about the video: Did anyone else find the "background" music EXTREMELY LOUD AND DISTRACTING? Because I could barely hear the people in the video speak. As for my act of kindness towards someone being bullied...... today we had a sub in my government class and he started talking about the history of wine fermentation and like alcohol trading regulations in the US and I made a special point of paying attention because I didn't want him to think everybody was bored out of their minds by what he was saying (they were). I think that counts, even though he wasn't a student.
This link I'm posting is actually a great video that I might have mentioned in class. I remember watching it in one of my classes in Colombia in 2011 and thinking it was awesome back then too- it's about how random acts of kindness can inspire other people to act kindly too.

I think that's nice to do because everybody likes being listened and you made a difference from everyone else which was listening to him which showed him someone was paying attention and probably encouraged him to keep on talking about the topic.

I have done something positive for a long time even though it doesn't have to do with bullying, but I always ask people how their day was. I ask this to people because when I have a bad day and someone asks me that it shows me that someone cares and I could tell them what happened, so I always ask my friends how their day was. I think asking that is a really nice question and you might as well make someone's day by making them feel better. I always show my friends that I care about them and if they say they had a bad day I worry and ask why. Also the other day someone told me I made their morning because I said something nice to them. I most of the time also compliment people because you don't know if they're having a bad day and what you said was the only nice thing that happened to them. It makes me feel good that I show someone I care or that I make them smile.

Selfless acts are always preformed being that they're unintentional. During swimming class i unintentionally help out students who dont know how to swim as well as others. i do these acts not for show but from the kindness of my heart. after helping out these students i feel good that i have because theyre happy that they improve and im happy to know that ive done something to cause the improvement . kindness can begin anywhere, from anyone. by simply holding a door open for someone or saying "Good Morning" can impact a person and their day.The following link shows acts of kindness coming from all types of people.

The video I have posted isn't exactly about paying something forward with kindness, but it is about what life would be like if we didn't have to. This video shows that it is not in people's nature to bully, but through contact with the wrong people, the innocence that a person was born with and meant to have changes into a careless malice towards others. As for the kind act towards a bullying victim.. I started talking to someone in my gym class who doesn't have friends, He doesn't speak very good English, so some other students laugh at him when he looks lost during class, having not understood the teacher's instructions. To make his life a little easier and his high school experience more tolerable, I explain to him in terms he can understand what the teacher tells us to do. The feeling is very rewarding, knowing that you have the power to affect someone's life in such positive way. It gives you a certain confidence, and makes you feel that if you can do something like this, then you can accomplish practically anything you want to in life.

  5. It's amazing how one simple act can help someone. I always say "Hi" or "good morning" to kids I see in school that sit alone. I guess it's more about understanding how it feels to be bullied. I believe that everyone has been bullied and have at one point been the bully. Sometimes it's hard to push forward and at times we need help.

  6. I havent really helped anyone but one person, and that was years ago, back in 7th grade, he was made fun of because of his ideas (new generation laptop etc). We had a group of friends, 5 of us to be exact, 4 of the gus were the ones making fun him, i didnt, what i did was talk to him about his ideas, he seemed pretty happy that someone cared abot anything he had to say. Later on in 8th grade, our group of 5 fell apart because people had different ideas about things. And now my new friend and i are making VR goggles (virtual reality).

I have done something positive, it may not have to do with bullying but I do try to make peoples day/ morning. I usually say good morning to people and do caring things. like if I see someone having a hard time carrying their bags or need help I help them. I do it in the kind of my heart, itnot that I have to but because I want too. :)

I think that's a wonderful way to spread joy. It's simple yet effective and goes a long way.

This girl was crying in my global history class and appeared very upset. I don't know whether or not it was related to bullying or not. Everybody seemed to be ignoring her. I asked her if she was okay, gave her a tissue and told her that she could talk to me. Although she didn't tell me anything, I sensed the gratitude. It made me feel better watching her feel better. It's a natural human emotion, because we're all connected in my belief.

This is a video of a guy doing everything he can to avoid the bullying and giving in to all the bully's wishes, yet still getting violently abused while the bully's friends shout at the victim for being cowardly for not wanting to fight back. In the end, an updastander finally intercepts and courageously defends the victim. I think it's amazing what the guy did.

I feel what you did was very nice because even though it seems like you don't really know the girl you offered her help because it seemed like she needed help. That was very nice of you! :)

Everyday isn't always a good day for everyone. An act of kindness can be to ask a person if they're alright if they don't seem to be happy. I always say hi to everyone and try to be kind as possible because you never really know what someone could be going through. Bullying can occur anywhere whether it's at home or even in school. In some of my classes there are students who don't really speak English but it really doesn't mean anything to me because I always try to make a conversation with them. To the other students they seem to be invisible but not to me. Whenever they need help or anyone else I know needs help I always try to find a way to help. I always try to be kind as possible to brighten up everyone's day. Below is a video that shows many acts of kindness.
