In my opinion, I agree that students in this day and age should be taught "the grit". It can help students deal with the struggle of trying to learn something new and trying to better themselves, as it says in the article. It's better to let the student sit in the awkward silence and let them come up with an answer, because it gets them thinking and it can help break away the shyness. It's also good to have "the grit", because students can learn from their own mistakes or evaluate their weaknesses and begin to work on them to strengthen themselves as an individual.

  2. Grit is important in our school system today but i believe that there should be a balance between regular iq oriented scooling and this method. Combining tthe coventional style of teaching and grit would perhaps create an even stronger method of teaching. In this way it may help the students to be come more well rounded. They will be able to get into better schools and be able to push through their work and problems using persistence, determination and resilience as the term defines. Thus solving the conflict of grit not being as good and just being a new fad among educators.

    1. While I became completely against today's system of learning, your opinion made me think. I agree with your idea that the conventional style of teaching should still be somewhat incorporated If ever "grit" will actually be utilized. There is still value to what we're learning now after all. It is the standardized testing that I don't support. Good job

It is not entirely subjective to state that the school system is gradually degenerating with time. Students are being taught what to think, rather than how to think. Along with this comes the pressure of passing standardized exams which unfortunately define one's future, and not intellect. While all these are being followed through in an effort to create a level playing field, it is evident that it simply does not work. Indeed, it sounds practical as a concept, but its application in reality does not aid the youth in the transition from school life to adulthood. Therefore, "grit" should be established as a standard in learning in order to reinforce that devotion is much more significant than objective knowledge in the real word. Moreover, the function of school is to create efficient individuals for an active society--a society where failure is inevitable. This clashes with the idea of having students memorize words they do not completely comprehend, only for them to forget after taking an exam.

  5. In my opinion I think the "GRIT" teaching method could be a good or bad thing depending on the person you using the method on. The grit method can be used to boost there confidence skills and also help the person tackling a problem they can not solve which can be useful in the long run in life. How ever the "GRIT" method can also deteriorate a person confidence which could also make a person frustrated in subjects the person is not good at. But overall I agree with the "GRIT" method.

  6. The GRIT program to teaching children in school is a way to show that working hard and failing is okay because most likely you will learn from the mistake you have done and that the hard work will pay off. A teachers goal is to convince her student that working hard and failure will pay off, the goal of this program is to turn kids gritty. The name of the program GRIT come from the word gritty, which means showing courage and resolve. I think this new program will help students become prepared for real like situations , everything doesn't come to hand most of the time you have to work for what you want and some chances you are going to fail but failing will show you the mistake you did to get you to where you are at and you can go back fix that little mistake that caused you to fail which can bring you success http://www.neuroleader.us/2013/12/24/got-grit-4-strategies-for-how-to-use-your-brains-braking-system-to-increase-perseverance-and-personal-resilience/

I agree with the grit method to be taught. Like Tom Hoerr said "that no matter how talented [students are], they hit the wall, so they can learn to pick themselves up, hit the wall again and pick themselves up again, and ultimately persevere and succeed." It students don't fail, how will they be able to learn from their mistakes? If they give up, how will they reach their goals? If they don't challenge themselves, how will they be able to pass harder goals in the future? Grit teaches the ability to go after your goal, work hard for it even after failures because it's okay to fail, but if you keep on going after it, you may succeed.

    1. You bring up a good point when you said how will we learn if we never fail. This is very true because we are suppose to learn from our mistakes.

    2. I totally agree with you because student these days would give up after one or two tries on things. people who achieve their goal with no failure won't learn as much as people who fail many times before they achieve their goal.

  8. The GRIT method of helping/teaching children in school is an outstanding program. It will shows the students that is ok so mess up sometimes not everything comes easy. The students can use there failures as a reference so they won't make the same mistake again. Also students shouldn't give up when they fall they should pick themselves right back up and continue. This program will make the students think and perhaps prepare them for real life situations in the future. with all these new standardized test this will be good preparation. From failure comes success.

    1. I agree with everything you said but think about what the students would feel about learning, what if the student was you, putting more stress and hard work and not knowing the true meaning of learning

  9. When we talk about the progression of students and modern education we tend to refer to them as statistics and focus vaguely on the whole rather than the individual. The best proven way to solve an issue is by recognizing it yourself without the assistance of others. In the GRIT program ,the students are taught to identify and resolve the problem. It teaches them that messing up is fine and that nothing good comes simple. This method will most definitely have a positive effect on our future. While in school , problems are usually based on textbooks and improbable of assisting with our future. The Grit however, teaches us valuable techniques that will improve our future tasks.

  10. The GRIT program is teaching children in school that there is a way to show that working hard and failing is alright because you will learn from the mistake you have did and that the hard work will pay off. And you would understand next time. -adriana arvizu

In my opinion I think kids should learn to be gritty because and years go by kids get more and more help from parents, friends, and other people you know. this will cause kids too rely on other people to help them with thing that they think is hard. when kids rely on others too much and it's time for them to go off on their own they will think everything is hard and impossible, because they're used to getting to solve a problem. school should totally teach the grit method because it teaches students to have patience on thing that they don't understand and eventually they will find a way to accomplish it after many mistakes that they make. for example when we learned to ride a bike we start with 3 or 4 wheel and work our way to 2 wheel. we will get hurt for the first try of a 2 wheel bike , but if we are determined and put more effort in accomplishing such thing you will eventually be able to ride a 2 wheel bike.

  12. In my opinion, I agree that students these days should be taught "grit". Grit means persistence, determination, and resilience. According to the article around the nation, schools are beginning to see grit as key to students` success.Grit is a method to show kids that mistakes and failures are normal parts of learning not reasons to quit. Tom Hoerr says " If our kids have graduated from here with nothing but success, than we failed them, because they havent learned how to respond to frustration and failure". It has been proved that grit is actually a better predictor of success than IQ or other measures. The secret of success is failure.

I think kids should be raised with true grit because you can be like John Wayne or Jeff Bridges. In all seriousness being gritty would turn kids into stronger people instead of someone who never tried to motivate themselves to work harder. Grit would help kids become more confident to better themselves and to learn from their failures. If a student thinks they will fail they most likely will with that mindset however with determination and resilience they will succeed in the end. The only way for a student to succeed is to never quit at a goal and always go big or go home.

Grit may be the future of American success and become well organized for the students and make their future brighter. Many students nowadays are not being prepared for these challenges they are going to face during their college years and as they graduate from college, they would have no idea of what to do after, but with the help of Grit, it may help encourage the student and not let them back down too easily and help them pass obstacles that they can't get by. Even though teachers love to use Grit to help their students and give their school a good reputation, it would also causes the student the ability to LIKE learning because they would have to push and have more stress in themselves which causes their brain to malfunction.
