Blog #18 Command Inspection Reflection

Hi again cadets. You did a great job on the first half of our Gold Star Inspection this week. Out of 100 possible points, your team effort scored a 98 so that is really awesome.  Your task this week is to post a "Reflection" on our site about how you feel after passing the inspection.  Your reflection must be at least one full paragraph with at least 5 sentences. If you write more, then you will gain extra credit. Once you have posted your reflection, make sure that you post any Positive Video that you want to our site. Remember to comment on your peer's work and you will be finished for this week.  Good luck and I look forward to seeing all of your comments.

The command inspection had been the easiest thing ive possibly done. Throughout the course of JROTC ive been scared for this inspection. The in class inspections are harder than the actual inspection. This is good in a way because it made me actually study the packet. Since the morning of the inspection i had been so nervous and thought i would die, turns out that i didnt . i seriously expected harder questions instead of "whose your SAI"? But to sum it up it went all good :) and hopefully we'll get to keep our yellow star.
this seems like a positive video :)

    1. I think it's very likely we'll keep the gold star, unless somebody does something in the next few days to ruin our good standing (not saying I'm expecting anyone to do that, of course.)

I agree with you I was really nervous about the command inspection and it turned out being easier than what I expected. And I also hope we can keep the gold star.

    3. I agree that we have a good chance of keeping the gold star. We were over prepared which is always a good thing and shows dedication which is bigger than showing laziness

I was unable to attend the command inspection. I was excused. Even though I didn't attend the inspection, my classmates told me that it wasn't as hard as they expected it to be.

Yes that is exactly correct... it was rather straightforward.

The command inspection was actually easy. I was so nervous, I kept saying I didn't have anytime to study the packet. I forced myself to find time, during class inspection I was also scared thinking I was a complete failure. I was told that I wasn't I just needed to calm down and not get nervous. I was calm during the command inspection,I didn't panic and I answered all the questions correctly and I sounded off.

  4. Although I was not at Tuesday's battalion inspection, I have heard lots of people say positive things about. First of all, it's great to know to know that practically everyone showed up... that alone showed the St. Johns ROTC cadets that Fort Hamilton indeed has a very dedicated program, with students that take it very seriously. The questions, from what I hear, were very basic, and some even complained that they studied too much. In my opinion there's no such thing, and it is much better to be over prepared than under prepared. The basics are essentially the structure for the more complex, so I'm sure the cadets did that to see that our JROTC program has a solid foundation. As for myself, I'm sure that I would have answered the questions correctly and helped our program retain its gold star.

    1. Cadet, you might have added that the only reason you were not at the Inspection was because of your Required Math Class that you had to attend. I know you would have done well and would have answered your questions without any doubt. Keeping working on your math and good luck with your graduation.

  5. I was surprised after the inspection that the questions they asked were so straightforward. I was only slightly nervous beforehand that I would miss a question ( and I was praying they wouldn't ask me for my general orders!) but grateful that the inspectors didn't try to trick us with any obscure questions. The drill team and color guard both gave really great performances, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the kids who were sitting off to the side in the gym were inspired to join the program after watching the proceedings because they were pretty awesome. JROTC had everything sorted and I am relieved because, to be honest, I expected there to be at least one person who totally bombed the questions. I will continue to reference my study packet though probably not as frequently- all in all, I'm glad it's over because everybody was getting needlessly stressed out over that inspection. Since you said in the directions to post a positive link, I'm going to paste a link to ebay, for a book called "14,000 Things to Be Happy About".

You should give bonus points to anyone who buys it and brings it into class.

I was really nervous about the command inspection because I was afraid that if I got asked a question I didn't know the answer or I would panic and forget the answer even though I had studied my packet well. I wasn't inspected by the sergeants that came from another school so when I got inspected I thought it was just to see if I knew the answers, and I got all of them right. I found the question really easy and I was able to answer them right away. At first I thought I wasn't inspected but then I found out that counted and I was happy because I knew I did good and the person that inspected me said it as well therefore I was relieved and I thought it was easier than what it seemed. I think the inspections that we had during class were harder than the command inspection but I think it was better that it was that way because that prepared us better for the command inspection.

    1. I totally agree with you that the class inspections were more serious and seemed harder than the command inspection was. That is because our school didn't know specifically what were the questions therefore we had to know every single question. I also agree with you that there was a lot of stress going on due to all of the inspections weather it was a class or a command inspection and that's because it was a first time experience and all the let 1 and 2 were nervous, by the time we'er let 4 we will be inspected again and we won't have as much stress because we already know how easy it is.

I was very anxious about the inspection. I studied all nght and woke up early to go to the library and study more. All throughout the bus drive I was paranoid that the inspectors would ask me to say the general orders, as I thought we would all get inspected individually by the inspectors, and I kept reciting them. however, when I was inspected, I didn't even know that I was being inspected. I thought it was just a warm up. However, after I discovered that that was indeed the formal inspection, I was surprised at the easiness and was relieved. the difficulty of it was definitely exaggerated. but it got us to study so I guess it was an effective method.

I 100% agree with you because I felt the same exact way. Also, I was nerves because I didn't know what to expect because it was my first year.

For the inspection I was very nervous. I studied a lot, I had my family members test me on stuff. I wanted to make sure I knew everything. The most hardest things for me to study was my 3 general orders and the 7 army values. Then, on the day of the inspection we were told to know our top 4 chain of commands and I was so nerves because I didn't know them and I was scared to be asked what were they. When the inspection started I was only asked two questions which were the 3 types of flags and my 7 army values. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A2BR3ihy-U

The command inspection wasn't as difficult as we all expected. Before the inspection I was nervous even though I'm on drill team and I knew my packet beforehand. I was also nervous because I didn't know if the inspectors were going to be nice or not. I really can't sound off as loud as other cadets so I was scared that they were going to ask me to sound off louder than what I was. I got all the questions correct and I felt proud of myself afterwards of not only me but of everyone else who went to the inspection and got inspected. The class inspections really helped prepare us for the command inspection because we knew more than what they asked.

    1. I agree with you because i think we all felt a little nervous, we were clueless of what their tone was going to be and what they were going to ask us, which could be nerve racking but they prepared us for the worst and well pulled trough.

I personally feel pretty confident about my command inspection. 1SG Lewis prepared us for the worst and built up our knowledge. We didn't know what questions they were going to ask us and we were expecting the hardest questions and when the time came we knew all the questions they were asking.i also thought our teams were excellent, prepared as well as organized. I think we have what it takes to keep our gold star. I am very proud of all the cadets because we pulled trough and gave it all we got.

I agree with you completely , I was prepared for them to ask us some hard questions from the packet but it turns out that they didn't and they asked us a few questions that they asked us in class .

I attended the Command Inspection and to my surprise, I realized that I was going to be asked very simple questions. I was elated to hear this because I had not studied over the weekend because I had forgotten to do so. Although I didn't know most of the packet, I still knew my basic information and was able to successfully answer the questions I was asked. If I could have changed anything about the experience, I would have most likely had all of the cadets not sit around and wait while the Color Guard and the Drill Sequence was taking place. It would have been more professional if everyone were to have been in some form of formation. In summation, I believe that this was a good experience for the younger cadets who will be returning next year, however it was more or less a free period to get out of for seniors.

Speaking of personal experience, I attended command inspection and got all the questions right. this fact makes me feel responsible because I had enough personal courage and didn't back up, However the class inspections were way harder, stricter, and seemed more serious than the actual inspection. Thanks to 1SG and the let 3 and 4 who inspected us during class because those people are the reason why I was confident about going and those people are the ones who trained us and built up our knowledge.
