Blog #19 The clock is ticking for you and your body

Good morning Cadets. We are finishing our Health module and have just sprung forward with our clocks so it's time to see what type of effect that has on our bodies. The following story is from research that tells of the effects of your body clock and what it does to all parts of our body. Your task is to read/list to the story and after your work, post a brief synopsis of the story along with 3 Bullet Facts / statements from the story that you did not know. Along with that, you must also post a video/story from the Internet about the effects of time on your body and lastly you must also comment on at least one of your peer's work.  Good luck and I hope that you like this story. Here is your link:  NPR Your internal body clock

When I listened to the audio log, i was surprised at the fact that your BODY knows when to wake up, not the School for example. The optimal time for me to get up is around 10-11 am, not 6 in the morning. Another fact i was surprised at, was the thing about your organs needing food, around 10 (4th period) I get really hungry and sleepy. One last thing i was sufrpirsed about was the fact that your body adapts to the enviroment, jet lag is one example.

  2. while i would like to think that this is completely true, i would also like to think that i can change that. for example there was a study that was done a while ago. i will try to find the video or the article. but what the article is about is how they put a person in a room with out windows or a clock. so she didn't know the time and her body clock was missed up. she fell asleep when it was like 2 in the afternoon. so that just shows that its not completely bad when your body clock is screwed up. ok so i cant find the article but here is another one

I listened to the audio log and I found out that your body is reacting to the clock and knowing what to do. I also found out that your organs can be resembled to musical instruments. I also found out that organs also need of food too.

By reading this article I've read about the best timing your body should eat and how many people progressed eating a big breakfast and it seems to be a better timing than having a big dinner. Eating at night while your system should be resting isn't good for your body. We've also have different timing in different parts of our body. people who eat earlier seem to be sucessful at loosing weight.

I learned this about the article too, and I didn't know that that people that eat breakfast are more successful at loosing weight but I did know that eating breakfast is the most important meal.

I agree 100% because now that I started eating breakfast I see a change in my body. I'm not as tired as I use to be neither.

A summation of this article is that the human body has multiple clocks that control how we operate and maintain our bodies and if these clocks are out of sync, be become more unhealthy than people who are synced.

-Messing with your sleep/wake cycle raises your blood pressure and lowers blood sugar. This can lead to metabolic disease.
-Every organ in your body has a "clock".
-People who eat food earlier in the day lose more weight than people who eat later in the day.

  6. The story was about how our body reacts to how much sleep we get. I learned new things from reading this article.
-If you never sleep,it causes the human to gain weight or even get diabetes
-people that eat their main meal earlier in the day were more successful at losing weight than people who eat their main meal later in the day
-early eaters lose 25%more weight than later eaters.
here is an article I found about how effects on our body are connected to how long and what time we go to sleep

While reading this article I learned that we have different clocks in every organ of our bodies.

    - we need regular sleeping and eating schedules to keep all of our clocks in sync
    - If we don't follow these clocks there is a slight chance of weight gain and metabolic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes

This article basically talks about how our body has a time for when we should eat and go to sleep or wake up and what happens when we eat at a time that we aren't suppose to, it also talks about how eating breakfast helps you loose weight rather than eating a big dinner because that wouldn't help you loose weight. Three things I've learned from reading this article are:
    • The pancreas releases insulin to deal with a meal if we eat late at night.
    • If we mess with the body's natural sleep/wake cycle our blood pressure goes up.
    • You loose more weight by eating breakfast than eating a big dinner.

  9. This article outlines the reasons why your body is thrown off by lack of sleep or a change in your sleep patterns. The cells and organs within your body should all be synchronized when it comes to activity- rest cycles, so doing something to disrupt this (i.e. eating late at night, right before going to bed) can have an affect on how your body functions.
Three things I learned from reading this article:
    1. Eating your largest meal of the day in the morning instead of later in the evening makes it 25% more likely for you to lose weight.
    2. Blood pressure, blood sugar levels and hunger signals are all affected by lack of sleep.
    3. Basically, midnight snacks are a bad idea.

Along these same lines, I found an article from the Huffington Post about a man who died after going 11 days without sleeping. You can always ask your math teacher for an extension on that huge assignment, you know? Sleep.

  10. There is not much from this article I didn't already know. As I have been heavily into sports since the beginning of high school, keeping your body in tip top shape has been a concern that was always emphasized, for both myself and all the other athletes participating.

An interesting article I found was one on sleep deprivation. Many might not know or even care all that much, but the human body needs at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, and anything less than that will have your body struggling to get through the day. Sleep deprivation is actually an ancient form of torture in some, so keep that in mind next time you plan on staying up until 2:00 A.M. having to wake up at 7:00 the next morning.

This article made learn a lot. I didn't know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Also, I didn't know that our bodies have clocks and know when it time to go to sleep and when its time to wake up. those 3 facts really taught me a lot cause now I started eating breakfast and I see a change already.

i think its amazing how our body is connected to nature and its surrounding environment even subconsciously. so we shouldn't deprive it of its necessities to function properly like breakfast, especially when breakfast charges your body without adding any unwanted weight, making it the most important meal of the day.

This article is about how our bodies have clocks.1. We have clocks in every organ of our bodies. 2. I learned that the brain has a clock which is known as the master clock, this clock helps us maintain a 24 hour sleep-wake cycle. 3. I also learned that people who eat early lose 25% more weight than people who eat later. This article is also about how body is thrown off when it doesn't follow it's repetitive pattern.

This article is more about how the body has internal clocks in the organs.
