Blog #10 More about your brain and your future

Here is another short video clip about the Brain that shows that science is truly making amazing leaps with our brain. I am truly amazed every time I read an article on medicine today. Here is your video and I hope you enjoy it.

  1. That is an very interesting and cool fact about the bring literalty can be an on and off switch. But the thing is if they turn of that specific part of the brain could it have an effect on the whole body? Not being pestimestic or anything I just think that could have some risk with turning of some parts of the bring. Like if a brain surgon turn some parts of the nuron off could that possibly lead to some alternate personality that cant be fixed. Well any way can anyone imagine what other thing scienctist could do to the brain as technology advances. I was reading some articule on the internet saying in the next 2 decades a or so they will use nano technology to repair parts of the brain that been damages. I guess were all in for a treat in the later future.

  2. this new discovery really surprised me the world of medicine has become extremely advanced. Years ago doctors and people only fantasized and dreamed about these kind of things. Now there are advances that are able to cure the incurable diseases. I wonder what advances in medicine will be available ten or twenty years from now.

    1. It's really inspiring that as you said "there are advances that are able to cure the incurable diseases." Everyday the medical field in general has been advancing more. And hopefully now with a bigger understanding of our brains and body's, scientists will be able to discover the cure for cancer other deadly diseases.

  4. I am completely stunned, I would of never imagined an "on and off switch" to the brain, nevertheless that the "off switch" would be able to help cure neurological disorders. The medical field of neuroscience everyday is becoming more and more advanced, where we now have a bigger understanding of the brain than compared to years ago. Truly amazing

    1. as you said it is a very good development for the people that needed the on and off switch for their brain because they had neurological disorders. this can save many people's lives in a year

  6. I am really surprised i never thought that technology could have made a huge advancement in the brain, like and "off" and "on" button. This would really help people with diseases like twitching and epilepsy. This is truly amazing discovery i really hope it works out!.

  7. I am very suprised about this. Who would of thought that there will a "on and off switch" for the brain. The medical field is improving and coming up with these cool ideas to help us feel better. Like for example in this case the "off switch" would be able to help cure neurological disorders. Science and technology are taking as a far way in to the future.

    1. Very interesting story. Considering that the brain can hold up to 2.5 petabytes of information, this concept of a circuit board modeled after a brain sounds as if it will actually be quite efficient. I do not think, however, that this will become a mainstream technology anytime soon since it was mentioned that each costs about $40,000.

it is shocking that scientist discovered how to turn on the brain in 2005 and took less than 10 years to discover the way to turn off the brain. the advancement of technology and scientific discoveries is very surprising because they know how to treat neurological disorders with this new developed idea of turning "on" and "off" the human brain. this new development will surely benefit people with neurological disorders and as this get more advanced they might be able to change the brain of 2 different people.

This newly discovered method of manipulating certain brain functions will aid those who suffer from neurological disorders. Again, this is a proof that science knows no limits. What used to be untreatable problems now have solutions that do not have low success rates and detrimental side effects. Also, this development of an "off switch" for the brain can be used to erase traumatic memories which can greatly impact an individual's daily life and thought process. So not only is this an advancement in neurology, it can also be considered as a breakthrough in psychology.

This discovery is something I would of never expected to be happening and would seem to be something out of a sci-fi movie, however this is very much real. This "off switch" of the brain could potentially in a way cure PTSD victims by helping them forget about it. This could also make a real life Jason Bourne by erasing memories so that we could have perfect CIA agents. Aside from CIA agents and PTSD this is also a crazy advancement in neurology and psychology

  12. i am surprised. i learned new stuff about the brain. i didn't know the brain had a off and on switch. medication has improved increasingly through out these past years. The "off" switch can cure many brain disorders especially with the nerves. With the new technology in medicine in a few years there are going to be cures
for disease or disorders that don't have any cures at theses moments.http://med.stanford.edu/ism/2014/may/young-blood.html

  13. It is amazing that as technology advances so does the discoveries that scientist make. I would have never thought that the brain can have an on and off switch. What's even more amazing is that this can possibly help cure people with neurological problems. Our bodies are custom like computers. The only difference is that we don't contain metal or micro ships.
