Blog #21 What is your take on this situation?

Good Morning Cadets.  Your task this week is to Read/Listen to the following link and post your opinion about the article. Do you agree with the article or do you disagree. Either way, you must post your opinions, comment on at least one of your peer's work and lastly post a URL Link, Video or news related story that supports your opinion. We've talked about this issue in class some so you should be aware of some of this information already. Good luck and I look forward to seeing your responses. Here is your link:  NPR Story Baltimore

  1. read a couple of comments on the story and one or two said what I wanted to say but in a smarter way. So I’m going to post them so I can sound smart...
"maybe the problem in all these cases is just with the cops, not the white cops, cops in general, perhaps the cops' race has merely been coincidental and the actual problem is power corrupts and we live in a police state"
one saying that I saw come up a lot was "obey...or else" it’s not that they think that but that they want that to happen, they, being the police, have had it drilled into their minds before the go out that people will do as told, after that the police had no idea what to do. So what would happen if they don’t obey?

  2. I don’t think this has anything to deal with the article but it does with what we did in class

    1. I like the link you posted because I agree- media coverage is so often biased that you really never know if you're getting the full story unless you compare information from several different sources.

  3. I agree with this article to a certain extent... the incident in Baltimore was less of a racially fueled issue as it was in Ferguson, and was caused instead by general distrust of the police. It's difficult for people who aren't in the security field to be able to truly understand what it's like to work as a cop and face potentially dangerous situations every day. For my link I'm posting an article and video also from NPR titled "What Happens when a Police Officer Doesn't Shoot?". The video shows a police officer confronting someone wanted for murder, and it clearly shows him saying over and over "I don't want to shoot you". The psychological effect it must have on many of these police officers to actually shoot and maybe kill another human must be extreme, but this side is rarely considered.
