Blog #8 Who's your favorite leader and why?

Good Morning Cadets: Your task this week since we have been learning about leadership traits is to post whom you believe is an exceptional leader and post why you chose them. You must then post a URL link for a story or video about the person that you chose. Remember to comment on at least one of your peers work.  Good luck and I look forward to reading your posts. Here is the person that I feel is an exceptional leader. I served with this person and saw his work first hand, he should have been the first African-American President of the United States. He fought hard and served his country on numerous occassions.  Here is his video:

  1. Though she isn't the leader of a country or military group, Malala Yousafzai is a leader in a figurative sense, as a role model and spokesperson for girls' educational rights. She is around the same age as the same girls she advocates for and leads by example, having faced extreme persecution in her home country of Pakistan. She was shot in the head by a Taliban militant as punishment for speaking out about the educational disadvantages girls face in her country but she survived due to extensive emergency surgery and now attends school in England. She started the Malala Fund which advocates for girls' rights to a safe school environment and in 2013 won the Nobel Peace Prize. She is an excellent leader since she has proven to girls all over the world that they shouldn't succumb to the many obstacles which stand in their way. Here is a link to a profile of Malala published by the BBC.

I think Malala is also a great leader because I remember learning about her in 8th grade and I think she has been through a lot of difficult obstacles in her life. I think she inspires a lot of people and sets out an example. I also think she stands up for what is right and for justice. Therefore I think she is a really good leader and that she is really brave and has a lot of courage.

    2. I, too picked Malala as my favorite leader and I agree with you. she is the same age as young and therefore more relatable. What you said, I think is ultimately what makes a leader, not succumbing to obstacles.

In my opinion Jackie Robinson is an exceptional leader. I think this because he was the first African American baseball play in Major League Baseball. I think he had a lot of courage because he went through a lot of obstacles in life and he still overcame them and I think this is really important. Also he had a lot of patience and he made an example as well. He worked hard for what he wanted and at the end he accomplished it.

I think Malala Yousafza is an exceptional leader in todays world. In America, we take education for granted and too often complain about it. However, we fail to recognize that children in most other countries live in poverty and desperately want an education because they believe education is the path to successmuch like Malala herself. I am from India, a nation very close to Pakistan where Malala is from and I have been to India, which Is very similar to Pakistan itself and I completely understand the circumstances she talks about regarding her own nation. Women are oppressed (in poorer areas) and are seen as inferior. segregation in earlier America is an example of women treatment in third world countries such as India and Pakistan. African Americans were denied education so that they remain illiterate, dependent, and ignorant and therefor inferior much like women today in some parts of the world. Yet, in India education holds a very high prestige everywhere. Education there is a privilege not a right, something that too often goes unappreciated in America where education is a right and is free. Malala inspires both fortunate children here and those that are unfortunate to learn. She inspires us to make the best of what we are privileged to have and the females to break free from sexist roles and receive an education to prosper in life. Not only does she encourage learning but also feminism. From someone like Malala who has experienced extreme sexism, it is much more inspiring when she tells us to break free from it. She has even survived a bullet to the head for her views yet she still says that she will not be silenced, putting her life in danger. She continues to spread her positive influence. She is a true model for anti-sexism and feminism, which is breaking free from society's roles rather than being overly sexualized in the name of feminism. she truly deserves the Nobel peace prize.

this is a link to a video where Malala gives a speech at the UN. She states that nothing, not even a bullet to the head will be able to silence her, depicting how she is a true leader also ready to give the ultimate sacrifice (death) for what she believes in.

  4. My favorite leader throughout history would have to be John Fitzgerald Kennedy. JFK was the youngest candidate to have been sworn into presidency, and to me it is very evident why. No matter what the situation is, a leader must always be able to keep a cool head and think on his feet. During his presidency he did exactly that, being able to calm the American public during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Red Scare. He was also very charismatic, being able to address the public in such a way that they felt very safe with him at the head of our country. He strongly exhibited the trait of justice, as he was a strong advocate for civil rights. He did not discriminate against African Americans or immigrants as many other politicians did at the time, but set his sights on the common enemies of humankind, such as poverty, tyranny, and war.

  5. Sure we have so many military leaders but my favorite leader is Malala Yousafza. I heard about her in the 8th grade, she's is such and inspiration. She is from Pakistan. She was shot in the head by a Taliban militant as punishment for speaking out about the educational disadvantages girls face in her country,She risked her life to help other girls. Thanks to her I noticed that education is a privilege and not a right. Being born in America I didn't have to fight or speak-out for my right to get my education.

I 100% agree with you because I feel the same exact way. Moms may not be famous or anything big to the world but they sure know how to make us a better person and helps us get through tough times. Moms also teach us right from wrong and how to make better choices.

When I read this assignment my first thought was also a parent. My dad, in my case. Parents have the biggest impact on our lives and they're supposed to set an example and be our role models. I think the fact that we thought of them as leaders right away says a lot about them and their parenting. They're definitely doing something right.

  7. In my opinion Mother Tereresa was a great leader. Not only did she put others before her but she influenced everyone around her to be kinder and coexist as one. She also won the Noble Peace Prize in 1979 and she was known as the giver. She inspires me to be a better persona and even though I never met her her story will always be with me.

  8. My favorite leader would be Lech Wałęsa, who was a simple electrician, who became the dissident trade-union activist. He was persecuted by the communist authorities, placed under surveillance, arrested alot of times. In 1980 he was instrumental in political negotiations that led to the ground-breaking Gdansk agreement between striking workers and the government.

My favorite leader is my mom. I chose my mom because she's been a teenager before and has made a lot of mistakes in her life. Even though she has made many mistakes she teaches me how to be better then she was when she was a teenager. Also, she teaches me how to make better choices in life and teaches me right from wrong. Even though not many people may know that, in my point of view my mom is my leader and she is always teaching me something new everyday.

  10. My favorite leader is my brother. My brother was able to survive a shooting in NYC and was able to learn a valuable lesson to his life. He was able to lead me to pursue my dreams and not to worry if what you did was wrong. My brother has changed after this incident and influence me to not worry and to be more careful to people you are close to. I was able to be his follower and now my life is different because of what he was able to do.

My favorite leader is Lionel Messi. He plays with FC Barcelona. Messi is the youngest player to ever play in FC Barcelona. He was determined to bring his team far ahead to where they are now and encourages them. He is determined to win. He's one of the best players that they ever had . Messi is only 27 and he's scored more goals than any other player around. He has fought his way to the top. He influenced me to follow my dreams and play soccer and be the best I can. In my opinion Lionel Messi is my favorite leader.

I think a great leader is our leader President Barack Obama, he had done many great things for our economy even there might have been some negative outcomes to it. He is always trying to find new ways he can improve to be the best leader as possible and for ways to make our economy better for us.

My favorite leader would have to be my father. After reading this task he is the first person that came to mind. He isn't famous but I look up to him. He has been through so much and has managed to not give up. Not only that but not once has he complained about anything. He continues to amaze me each and every day simply by not giving up.
I liked this article because my father influences me and I never thought that I could influence him, but I might without even being aware.
